Berlin, Germany : 10 - 13 November 2019
We know that scientists want opportunities to engage and interact beyond the lectures, so EACR conferences always feature a variety of dedicated sessions for this.
On this page:
Sunday 10 November at 18:15
Following the opening keynote lecture, this session will enable participants to make some new connections and meet those with similar research interests. Drinks will be served, making it an informal networking opportunity that is open to all participants. From 19:00, conversations can continue during the Welcome Buffet, and the trade exhibition will also be open at this time.
Monday 11 November, 13:00-14:30
Tuesday 12 November, 13:15-14:45
Lively Poster Discussion Sessions are a fixture at Goodbye Flat Biology. As well as the dedicated sessions on Monday and Tuesday, there will also be additional poster viewing opportunities at the beginning of each day where posters can be freely browsed.
Monday 11 November, 16:30-17:30 (Sign-up required)
Invited speakers will each host a table of participants, covering different topics. Speakers and participants may share research findings, establish or strengthen collaborations and discuss new technologies in the field. Topics include:
Details of how to sign-up for this session will be sent to all paying participants after the registration deadline.
Tuesday 12 November, 09:00-09:30
In this meet-the-expert talk Neil Carragher will describe his career path in biomedical and cancer research oscillatiing between positions in industry-to-academia-to-industry and back again to academia.
He will share his experiences and compare and contrast working in research in academic and industrial sectors. He will highlight the importance of inter-sector career mobility in the modern world of scientific careers and describe how his experiences gained in industry and academia represented an ideal training ground to support his current position in leading an academic drug discovery group at the University of Edinburgh. Finally, Neil will highlight some recent trends in academic-industry partnerships and the importance of academic-industry collaboration and inter-sector working in order to innovate the drug discovery process and address the substantial challenges of developing novel therapies for complex disease areas of unmet need.
Invited speakers Sara Wickström (for) and Senthil Muthuswamy (against) will discuss the topic in an engaging and interactive debate. Once each speaker has put across their argument, there will be an opportunity for questions from the audience. All participants will be asked to vote both before and after the debate, to see whether the discussion has changed anyone’s viewpoint.
Tuesday 12 November at 19:30
The Conference Dinner will take place on the final night of the meeting. It will be an excellent opportunity for participants and speakers to get to know each other in a relaxed and informal environment. The evening will begin with a Drinks Reception in the Planck Lobby of Harnack House at 19:30. The three-course served dinner will take place downstairs in the atmospheric restaurant from 20:00.
Tickets for the conference dinner are not included in the registration fee and can be purchased as an optional extra for €55.
