The main objective of the first YCR Networking conference is to create an opportunity for Young Cancer Researchers to establish partnerships and promote the advance of translational cancer research. It is aimed at currently registered postgraduate research students. During their postgraduate training, PhD and MD/PhD students have a few opportunities to present their research in a form of oral presentation. YCR Networking conference is a platform for PhD and MD/PhD students to report their scientific discoveries. Established cancer researchers are also welcome to attend.
This meeting is co-organised by postgraduate students of Cancer Research in the College of Medicine and Health UCC under a supervision of Dr Joanna Szaub-Newton, Dr Mark Tangney and Prof Mary Cahill. They have had a substantial input into the scientific layout of this meeting; they also chose specific themes for each scientific session. Each session will be chaired by a student and a Principal Investigator associated with Cancer Research at the College of Medicine and Health, UCC. In addition, two high impact international researchers with strong track in the area of translational cancer research are invited to give keynote talks at the meeting.
The focus of YCR Networking conference is on translational cancer research. Our Research Centre acknowledge the importance of collaboration between people who drive innovative research at the basic science level and people who operate at clinical investigation level. We believe effective cancer research is a continuum from the “bench to beside”.
