Postdoctoral Fellowship in Tumour Microenvironment and Immunotherapy : Air Pollution, Myeloid Cells, and Checkpoint Inhibitor Efficacy
Research Focus : This project, funded by the Foundation against Cancer, investigates how environmental pollutants shape the lung tumour immune landscape.
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary and international team to study:
- The mechanisms by which air pollution drives the recruitment of PolyMorphonuclear Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cells (PMN-MDSCs) into the lung parenchyma
- The influence of PMN-MDSCs on tumour progression and resistance to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs)
- The broader consequences of environmental exposure on the tumour microenvironment using preclinical models and state-of-the-art immunological and molecular tools
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Biology, Immunology, Cancer Biology, Pulmonology, or related biomedical sciences
- Proven experience with tumour immunology, myeloid cell biology, or lung disease models
- Proficiency in in vivo experimentation, flow cytometry, tissue analysis, and molecular biology techniques
- Knowledge of immune checkpoint blockade approaches is an asset
- Scientific autonomy, critical thinking, and strong collaborative skills are essential
Eligibility
To qualify for the tax-free postdoctoral bursary, applicants must:
- Be currently residing outside Belgium, OR
- Be Belgian nationals who have lived abroad for more than 3 consecutive years before the start date
